The issues to be addressed:
1. Change, culture and innovation
The challenge
The last decade has seen unprecedented change in health treatments, technology, organisation, management and policy. The only certainty is that change will increase over the decade and demand more of us personally, professionally, and organisationally. Do we have the knowledge and skills not only to cope, but to ensure the changes benefit patients?
We can manage change to make healthcare better for patients and staff. This international masterclass is for leaders and health professionals to look ahead and apply knowledge and ideas about how to make the most of change and rather than be the victims of change. It draws on international research and experience in changing culture, managing innovation and developing personally, making the most of organisational and systems capabilities.
2. Making a new decade for patients and staff
How to build better organisations and services for the long term
The masterclass will combine international and Australian research and experience from three world experts whose daily work is rooted in the practicalities of health care. We will apply both the best research and ideas to local clinical practice, hospital units, health care organisations, general practice and community settings, and also draw on the wealth of participants’ experience of change, culture and innovation issues from the last decade. We will “remember forward” into the new decade – taking what will help us, but also being prepared to question and leave old approaches which will not work in the new decade.
In short, we will use our combined expertise to ask: how can we design our health systems so they are better for staff and for patients? This is not a simple problem, but it is extremely important to try and get it right.
