First in Bahrain: American Mission Hospital achieves ACHSI accreditation
The American Mission Hospital has become the first hospital in the Kingdom of Bahrain to achieve accreditation through ACHS International (ACHSI).
The Chief Executive of ACHSI, Mr Brian Johnston commented today, “This accreditation demonstrates dedication to providing safe, quality care and patient satisfaction.”
The Hospital selected to undergo Australian accreditation over alternative international accreditation programs such as those offered from Canada and the US.
The Minister for Health for the Kingdom of Bahrain, the Australian embassy first secretary and representatives from ACHSI and The American Mission Hospital attended the accreditation certificate presentation.
The Chief Executive Officer of the American Mission Hospital, Dr Paul Armerding commented, “We see the relationship between The American Mission Hospital and ACHSI as an ongoing source of strength for our development.
“The surveyors, both those who did the mock survey and the formal survey, were objective in their outlook and constructive in their comments.”
The Hospital, which began as a dispensary in 1893, is the oldest in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
In the Middle East and India ACHSI has partnered with Quality Healthcare Australia (QHA) to play a pivotal role in delivering successful organisational development programs for hospitals wishing to improve performance and achieve accreditation.
“Both QHA and the ACHSI surveyors, who conducted the review, would like to acknowledge the hard work and commitment of The American Mission Hospital in achieving quality for patients and the community”, concluded Mr Johnston.
In June 2005, after increasing international interest in Australian health care accreditation, the ACHS established ACHS International to deliver programs and services internationally.
The ACHS is Australia's leading health care accreditation agency and is recognised by the International Society for Quality in Health Care (ISQua) for both its standards and accreditation program. Over 1200 individual hospitals and health care organisations across Australia are members of ACHS quality improvement programs.
