The National Safety and Quality Health Service Standards

The ACHS National Safety and Quality Health Service Standards Accreditation Program 

The National Safety and Quality Health Service Standards (NSQHS Standards) developed by the Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care (ACSQHC) were implemented nationally from 1 January 2013 and are compulsory for the majority of public and private healthcare organisations.

ACHS is one of a few select organisations approved by the ACSQHC to provide a comprehensive accreditation review program to address the requirements of the new NSQHS Standards.

ACHS offers two programs for its member organisations required to be accredited to the NSQHS Standards, these programs provide all the education and survey support services that ACHS members are familiar with: 

  • The ACHS National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) Standards program and
  • The ACHS EQuIPNational program (NSQHS Standards + EQuIP specific and complementary whole-of-organisation governance, support and safety standards). Contact a ACHS Customer Services Manager on csm@achs.org.au or phone ACHS on 02 9281 9955.

The ACHS NSQHS Standards Cycle

The cycle of events in which ACHS members submit one activity every year of their three-year NSQHS Standards membership period is listed below:

The member may start with a progress report prior to undertaking the survey if that suits their circumstances. The order of events will be agreed with the ACHS Customer Services Manager at the start of the membership contract.

ACHS members of the NSQHS Standards accreditation program will have the services of a dedicated ACHS Customer Services Manager (CSM) to provide support during the transition period and ACHS has developed its electronic Assessment Recording Tool (ART) to meet the needs of its NSQHS Standards review program.
