Workshop outcomes
At the conclusion of the workshop, participants will be able to:

further develop strategies to include consumers in the planning and provision of healthcare services;

effectively involve consumers in the monitoring of organisational performance and patient outcomes; and
-
implement the recent consumer focused policy directions, such as the Australian Charter of Healthcare Rights and open disclosure in their organisation.

About the Presenters
Professor Guy Maddern
Guy is currently Professor of Surgery at the University of Adelaide and Director of the Division of Surgery at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Adelaide. He has wide experience in healthcare, having worked in health care facilities in Switzerland and France.
Guy has published over 300 refereed publications, several of these on themes of quality and safety, covering areas such as clinical audits and incident reporting.
He is currently the Chair of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons Professional Development and Standards Board, and member of many professional boards and committees.
He is passionate about the need for professional groups to work together in cohesive teams to deliver safe and effective healthcare. He is also a keen advocate for involving consumers in the planning and evaluation of healthcare services.
Stephanie Newell
With a background in consumer engagement, patient safety and quality improvement, and through the facilitation of workshops which bring together health consumers, health providers and policy makers to build partnerships for patient safety.
Stephanie shares her passion for co-creating a safe, high quality, effective and responsive health system.
Stephanie is a member of state, national and international peak health consumer organisations and a consumer representative of a number of state, federal and international committees, including Consumers Health Forum of Australia (CHF), the World Health Organisation’s World Alliance for Patient Safety – Patients for Patient Safety and the SA Department of Health’s Safety and Quality Consumer and Community Advisory Committee, currently holding the position of Chair.
