Joint 2017 ACHSM/ACHS Asia-Pacific Congress

Banner 2017 Congress

A fantastic journey of learnings on leadership using a nautical sailing theme unfolded in Sydney as international and national speakers gathered to shared their personal experiences.

More than 450 delegates enjoyed a thought-provoking, educational and entertaining program which melded a range of different topics and speakers from around the country and overseas to tackle key issues in Health that impact on leadership.

Noted speakers included Helen Bevan and Lesley Dwyer from the UK, Dr Ray Pentecost from USA, Federal Health politicians and the Secretary, NSW Health, Elizabeth Koff.

Areas of interest covered include in the pre congress workshops, concurrent and plenary sessions included: high reliability organising, breakthrough collaborative methods, future proofing, networking, consumers and consumers, integrated care, online patient stories supporting staff learning, implementing a culture  of safety, current health facility design at an international and local level.

Keynote speakers generally looked at their own personal journeys, often appointed to a different environment from their own culture to share how they conquered it, the advances they brought and key learnings understood.

For the first time ever site tours were offered to Sydney Airport (judged as being very interesting, despite the strict security) as well as Bankstown and St Vincent’s Private Hospital  which were both viewed as extremely worthwhile.

A Drinks Reception on the first night, followed the next evening by a masquerade ball at Doltone House, opposite Hyde Park, kept the social entertainment and networking successfully ticking along.

Early feedback from delegates is that this year’s Joint Congress was one of the best health conferences staged in recent years with the high quality of speakers being a hallmark.

Quality Improvement can sometimes feel like more luck than anything else. Thank you for providing structure and guidelines to help with future QI programs. The whole course was fantastic and already has benefits within my department.
