Course Objectives

  • New paradigms for patient safety and their successful applications in healthcare settings;
  • Clinical risk from the patient’s perspective; and clinical governance responsibilities for quality and safety;
  • Legislative responsibilities in relation to patient harm and reportable incidents;
  • Incident investigation methods;
  • Human error and human factors principles
  • Failure mode effect analysis;
  • Reliability science overview;
  • Principles of team work and leadership style;
  • Open disclosure;
  • Quality Improvement (QI) practical applications for safety


Project based

All registrants will be required to undertake a work-based project, using their learning’s from the course, as well as a 15-minute verbal presentation.
