Review of EQuIP6

The ACHS Evaluation and Quality Improvement Program (EQuIP) was launched in 1996. EQuIP was developed by the ACHS to assist healthcare organisations to strive for excellence and was designed to be used by all types of organisations which provide health care.

The ACHS undertakes a comprehensive EQuIP standards review and consultation process at least every four years to ensure the standards remain current, continue to reflect best practice, draw on evidence and are achievable. The review process lasts approximately two years, beginning with the formation of working groups to develop a first draft, and moving to field review of the draft, desk-top audits and onsite pilot testing surveys. Approval of the standards, criteria and elements by the ACHS Standards Committee is followed by ratification by the Board.

The current edition, EQuIP6, was introduced 1 July 2016, with a six month transition period. As of 1 January 2017, all EQuIP accredited organisations were to be assessed against EQuIP6. Due to the two-year process that review of EQuIP entails, it is now time to begin the review of EQuIP6 and development of EQuIP7.

The next version of EQuIP will be implemented from 1 January 2021.

ACHS have requested that all EQuIP member organisations and EQuIP Assessors participate in an online consultation survey to highlight areas that may require improvement in the next edition of EQuIP.
