ACHS Launches Reconciliation Action Plan: Building Unity and Equity in Healthcare

We celebrate this significant milestone in our ongoing journey towards reconciliation and healthcare equity.

The ACHS is delighted to announce the launch of our Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP)—a significant milestone in our ongoing journey toward reconciliation, equity, and excellence in healthcare. This plan reflects our deep commitment to building respectful relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, fostering culturally safe environments, and amplifying First Nations voices across our organisation. Special thanks goes to ACHS Assessor, Glenise Coulthard AM, and ACHS Board Director, Ros Chataway, for their involvement in our RAP Working Group and to Ali Tawharu as RAP Chair.

Our RAP Vision

At ACHS, we envision unity between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and all Australians. Our goal is to create a strong, inclusive future that encourages respect, learning, and truth-telling while celebrating the rich heritage of First Nations peoples. Through our core business—assessing safety and quality in healthcare—we aim to advance equity for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, ensuring culturally safe care and improved health outcomes.

About our RAP Artwork: “Healthy Together”

Central to our Innovate RAP is the artwork Healthy Together, created by Jasmine Sarin, a proud Kamilaroi and Jerrinja woman from NSW. Jasmine’s design embodies the spirit of collaboration and support needed to achieve better health outcomes. The colours complement ACHS branding while evoking Sky Country, symbolising guidance and knowledge through songlines and constellations.

Community symbols within the artwork represent ACHS’s role in helping services implement best practice standards. Interconnected “knowledge lines” and dots signify past, present, and future learning, while leaves symbolise healing and growth—underscoring the importance of culture in physical and psychological wellbeing.

Our Commitment
The Innovate RAP provides a framework for ACHS to strengthen relationships, respect, and opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. It outlines practical actions, governance structures, and measurable outcomes that will guide our efforts over the next two years. From cultural awareness training to partnerships with First Nations organisations, every initiative reflects our dedication to meaningful change.
