ACHSM Congress 2025 Workshop Recap: Leading High-Performance Teams in Healthcare

The ACHSM Congress 2025 brought together key healthcare decision makers and leaders to discuss new ways of policy and practice, innovation and collaboration.

At this year’s ACHSM Asia-Pacific Health Leadership Congress in Darwin, the ACHS Improvement Academy hosted a highly engaging workshop titled Leading High-Performance Teams in Healthcare: Driving Leadership, Collaboration & Innovation. The session was led by faculty members, Associate Professor Bernie Harrison and Mr Pieter Walker.  

Building a Foundation for High Performance 

The workshop delved into the systems and processes that support high performance. Participants explored the role of structured decision-making frameworks, effective communication channels and transparent governance in maintaining alignment and focus. 

Participants examined how identity, structure, and process come together to create teams that are not only effective, but also agile, inclusive, and innovative. 

The session emphasised the importance of shared strategy, clear objectives, and defined roles, helping teams align their work with organisational goals.  
 

Emotional Intelligence, Trust and Team Culture 

A recurring theme was the role of emotional intelligence and trust in effective teamwork. High-trust teams are more resilient and better able to navigate conflict constructively. Building trust requires consistent leadership behaviours such as recognising excellence, communicating openly, encouraging personal and professional growth, and showing vulnerability while maintaining credibility. 

The workshop left attendees with practical frameworks and renewed inspiration to strengthen teamwork, collaboration, and leadership within their own healthcare organisations.
