Welcome to our Staff Spotlight where we introduce our great team members who work tirelessly to support ACHS Members and the broader healthcare community.
In this edition, we learn more about Nermin Youseph who is an Events Organiser at the ACHS Improvement Academy.
You have worked with the ACHS Improvement Academy (IA) since it started, how has training evolved over the last 10 years?
Since the ACHS Improvement Academy began in 2016, there’s been a significant shift in how training is delivered. We've moved from traditional face-to-face sessions to more flexible and accessible formats like virtual training, e-learning courses, and a dedicated learning portal. This transition has made it easier for healthcare staff across Australia to access our training on current and emerging topics relevant to their roles.
How have ACHS Members benefitted from the IA training and education?
ACHS Members have greatly benefited from the Improvement Academy’s comprehensive training offerings, which include Masterclasses, complimentary training sessions and exclusive Member discounts. These opportunities have empowered healthcare professionals to build capability in quality improvement, patient safety, and leadership across various levels of the health system. The Masterclasses provide in-depth, expert-led learning experiences on critical topics, while complimentary sessions increase access to foundational knowledge.
Is there a particular training moment or feedback that has stuck with you?
We get so much great feedback from attendees about our training, but something that stuck with me came from a faculty member who appreciated how inclusive and supportive our training is, especially for people at different stages in their improvement journey. They mentioned how our team consistently goes above and beyond to help participants feel encouraged. It was a great reminder of the positive impact a little extra support can have.
The launch of the IA Learning Portal was a big milestone. How has this new platform transformed how training is delivered?
The launch of the IA Learning Portal marked a significant milestone in transforming how education and training are delivered to healthcare workers across Australia. This new platform offers a collaborative, user-friendly space where participants can access on-demand training, explore a wide range of resources, and easily view scheduled dates for each topic in one place. It has greatly enhanced flexibility and accessibility, allowing learners to engage with content at their own pace and according to their specific needs.
What healthcare topic interests you most?
The healthcare topics that most interest me are those focused on quality improvement, patient safety and healthcare leadership. I am particularly drawn to practical strategies that drive measurable change in clinical settings, such as tools for continuous improvement.
What developments or opportunities are you most excited about as the Improvement Academy continues to grow and evolve?
As the Improvement Academy continues to grow and evolve, I am excited about the development of new training content, and the introduction of new expert faculty members. The continual addition of new and relevant training allows us to remain responsive to emerging challenges and priorities in the healthcare sector. The growth of our faculty brings fresh perspectives and expertise that enrich the learning experience. The introduction of IA Affiliate has enabled non-ACHS Member organisations and individuals to benefit from year-round training, high-quality expertise and resources. This development further supports capability-building across the broader health sector.
How do you practice self-care?
Practicing self-care involves setting aside time to recharge both mentally and physically, which is essential for maintaining overall well-being. For me, this means creating balance through regular routines like getting enough sleep, staying active with daily walks. Staying connected with supportive friends and family, and setting healthy boundaries around work, these are key to managing work-life balance.
Thank you Nermin, for sharing your insights and experience with us. We look forward to bringing you further Staff Spotlight articles in the future and showcasing the incredible talent that we foster at ACHS.
