Farewell and Thank You to Associate Professor Bernie Harrison

Celebrating Bernie’s near decade of service and inviting applications for this key leadership role as Director of the ACHS Improvement Academy.

After nearly 10 years leading the ACHS Improvement Academy, Associate Professor Bernie Harrison will be leaving ACHS to take on a new leadership role.  

Bernie has been instrumental in establishing and growing the Improvement Academy into the strong education and training arm of ACHS that it is today. Under her leadership, the Academy has delivered a diverse range of programs across formats, supported by a highly committed Faculty. Her leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic was pivotal in transitioning from face-to-face to online delivery, ensuring continued access to high-quality training at a critical time. 

We sincerely thank Bernie for her vision, expertise and commitment in building the Improvement Academy, and wish her every success in her new role.

About the Role 

As Director, you will lead the strategic growth and operational excellence of the Improvement Academy, working closely with the CEO and team to expand its reach and influence both domestically and internationally. You’ll design and deliver cutting-edge training programs, build a world-class faculty, and shape the future of healthcare education through innovative formats like eLearning, podcasts, and interactive workshops. 

 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Develop and execute growth strategies and annual business plans 

  • Lead the design and delivery of contemporary training programs across hospitals, aged care, community health, and NGOs 

  • Innovate with virtual learning, podcasts, and face-to-face workshops 

  • Build and coach a high-performing faculty and staff team 

  • Negotiate custom training solutions with healthcare organisations 

  • Represent ACHS at national and international forums 

  • Monitor program performance and ensure continuous improvement 
     

What You Bring 

  • Proven leadership in healthcare education, quality improvement, or patient safety 

  • Strategic thinking and business acumen 

  • Experience in designing and delivering impactful training programs
