Setting the Benchmark for Cosmetic Surgery: Why ACHS is the Preferred Choice

Australia's cosmetic surgery sector is entering a new era of accountability and patient safety.

The National Safety and Quality Cosmetic Surgery Standards, introduced by the Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care, establish a consistent national framework for organisations performing invasive cosmetic procedures, with a stronger focus on patient safety, quality care and informed decision-making. As an approved accrediting agency, ACHS is proud to help cosmetic surgery providers meet these important standards through a trusted accreditation pathway that supports excellence, transparency, and continuous improvement.

Raising the Standard of Care

The Cosmetic Surgery Standards apply to any facility performing invasive cosmetic procedures, whether it operates as a dedicated cosmetic surgery service or as part of a broader healthcare organisation.

The standards include seven core areas of safety and quality, comprising of 101 actions, designed to address the unique risks associated with cosmetic procedures. These focus on critical areas such as clinical governance, consumer partnerships, infection prevention and control, medication safety, comprehensive care, effective communication, and responding to patient deterioration.

Together, these standards provide a robust framework that helps organisations strengthen clinical systems, reduce risk, and deliver safe, person-centred care.

Flexible Pathways to Accreditation

ACHS offers two assessment options to suit different organisational needs:

  • Standalone Cosmetic Surgery Standards Accreditation
  • Integrated NSQHS Standards and Cosmetic Surgery Module Assessment

For organisations already accredited to the NSQHS Standards, the Cosmetic Surgery Module provides a streamlined option that reduces duplication and compliance burden. The module seamlessly incorporates 20 additional actions across five standards, ensuring cosmetic surgery-specific requirements are appropriately assessed.
