Sustainability Update: Building a Greener Future at ACHS 

ACHS is driving organisation-wide efforts to embed sustainability into our everyday work.

Following the announcement last year of the ACHS Sustainability Strategy, we are proud to share some of the recent initiatives being driven by ACHS to improve sustainability across the organisation.  

At ACHS, we are deeply committed to making a positive environmental impact and embedding sustainability into our operations. Over the past year, we have made significant strides towards reducing our carbon footprint, encouraging more sustainable practices among staff, and promoting environmental stewardship across the healthcare community.  

Here are some highlights of our progress:  

Celebrating sustainability leadership through the ACHS Quality Improvement (QI) Awards: We have expanded our Non-Clinical Service Delivery category to ‘Sustainable Healthcare and Service Delivery’ to encourage improvement and innovation in sustainable healthcare, environmental sustainability, patient services, and organisation-wide practice.  

Sustainable Travel: We are monitoring staff travel (including assessor travel) with a view to reducing environmental impacts by optimising itineraries and considering greener alternatives wherever possible.  

Blue Halo Carbon Offset Projects: We are actively reducing the environmental impact of corporate travel by contributing carbon offset funds to global projects focused on renewable energy, forest regeneration and community-led initiatives.  

Energy Efficiency in the Office: A range of strategies have been implemented including energy-efficient LED lighting, energy-efficient heating and cooling settings, and usage of Laptop Docking Stations for staff.  

Additional highlights:  

• Investigation of water conservation and reuse strategies  

• Sustainability information and education provided to Members in an ongoing way  

• Procurement changes to ensure suppliers are focused on positive ESG practices
