What Short Notice Assessments Look For 

Assessors typically review several key areas, including: 

• Evidence of compliance with the NSQHS Standards 
  Assessors examine how the organisation addresses the applicable actions within the Standards and whether the required systems and processes are in place.  

• Governance and safety systems 
  This includes oversight of quality and safety, clinical governance structures, risk management processes, and incident reporting systems. 

• Implementation in day-to-day practice 
  Assessments aim to confirm that safety and quality processes are actually functioning in routine clinical care, rather than existing only in policy documents.  

• Documentation and supporting evidence 
  Examples may include policies, procedures, quality improvement activities, audit results, and performance data that demonstrate how the organisation meets the Standards. 

• Staff understanding and engagement 
  Assessors often speak with members of the workforce to understand how systems operate in practice and how staff contribute to maintaining safe and high-quality care. 

Building Knowledge and Confidence 

The Understanding Short Notice Assessment training has been designed to support healthcare professionals in strengthening their knowledge of the assessment process and their role within it. 

This three-hour training session provides practical insights into how short notice assessments are conducted and how organisations can demonstrate embedded compliance. 

Participants will develop an understanding of: 

• The Australian Health Service Safety and Quality Accreditation Scheme (AHSSQA Scheme) 

• The NSQHS Standards (2nd Edition, 2021) and their application within healthcare organisations 

• The process of a short notice assessment 

• The evidence required to demonstrate embedded compliance 

• The responsibilities of individuals during an assessment
